/, Time Travel Tuesday/Time Travel Tuesday: Doctor Who Episode 2

Today’s Time Travel Pick (information provided by IMDB)
Title: Doctor Who
Type: TV series/British
Year: 2005-present
Genre: Drama, adventure, family
Rating: TVPGSummary: Rose Tyler is just an ordinary shop worker living an ordinary life in 21st century Britain. But that life is turned upside down when a strange man calling himself The Doctor drags her into an alien invasion attempt!

Reader/Viewer’s Take: This episode was pretty weird. The alien thing is cool and I’m excited to see where that goes. I love the whole set up of them watching the end of earth and making a show out of it, yet Rose not enjoying it like everyone else is. Of course my favorite time travel is always to years that the characters existed in or a past date with historical events that I’d recognize, but I found myself entertained with this episode regardless though it was a notch more corny or cheesy or whatever than episode 1 and 3 (which I’m discussing next week). I thought the “last human” in the form of a slab of stretched out skin being the villain in this episode was fairly predictable. I’m intrigued with the little bit of emotion The Doctor showed when the tree lady mentioned his family or his species (wasn’t sure which it was that upset him most).

Inside A Writer’s Brain: Not much time travel risk taken in this one because it’s a jump to the future (waaaay in the future) so past events and the main characters lives won’t be affected by this time travel other than the fact that Rose now knows when the world will end, but it’s way after her lifetime and try telling that that to the world population in her present day…think they’ll care? Nope. It’ll be like the big rapture all over again only even less important because no one will be alive to see that day anyway. The writer’s are in the time travel safe zone in this episode for sure.

So, did you like the future stuff in Doctor Who better than the past or present day episodes?
